The Bird of Love
by Cheryl J. Howell
Original 1973, revised May 20, 2012

Can your love be the bird
That soars and round me rings,
The flight to love unending,
With a song no other sings?

Does your love have the wings
That spread across the sky,
And wing to worlds unseen
By my untraveled eye?

Does your love have feathers
To clothe my tender heart,
To cushion and protect
So fear has not a start?

Can your love be the bird
That perches on my sill,
And sings the live long day
To give my heart this thrill?
