Fall Keeps Falling

Why does Summer want to go hide
When Fall comes to the yard to play?
They play together for a while
But Summer doesn’t like to stay.

It may be that Fall plays too rough.
He spills his paints on her best dress
And blows that cold wind down her neck—
Summer gets tired of chase, I guess.

She watches Fall play with Jack Frost.
She feels they are up to no good,
Playing all those tricks on cold nights,
Knocking down all the leaves they could.

The leaves are Summer’s summer friends—
They’ve spent so much time together.
Many games were played in the shade
Before this change in the weather.
