On the First Day

Thank you, Lord God, thank you!
Your creativity
Always amazes me-
How wonderful You are!

Just look how You blessed me
This very morning, Lord.
And that is so special,
Especially today!

Since this is the first day
Of the rest of my life-
And I woke up today
Among the retired.

Yes, my last day of work
Past with the setting sun,
And a new day sprang up
At dawn, with Your blessing.

You designed this for me,
Then You timed it just right-
The sweet gift and the note
To be left at my door.

The stranger couldn’t know-
We haven’t even met.
But I know that You know
And how can I forget?
